[It's been a few hours since Dice sent Gentaro off to great their fearless leader for his birthday, sending his regards but not going along. Of course, the author did seem suspicious enough that Dice winked as he closed the door, letting him know all was fine.
It bought him precious time to get things together, flowers and a surprisingly not burned dinner, a sweet heart-shaped card with a handwritten note, all laid out on a carefully set table. The cats are sleeping peacefully in the corner and dinner will be ready any minute now, but Gentaro isn't back. Actually, that makes things better in Dice's opinion! He can set it all out, make it fancy. Of course, he's not fancy. He's in skinny jeans and a loose button-up shirt, an apron tied on haphazardly while he cooks the curry. And yes, he made curry for a romantic dinner. It just seemed impossible to mess up.
Stirring the curry, he takes a quick break to survey everything. And he shoots off a quick text to his beloved.]
( he can’t quite help himself. not really. he had tried to make chocolates earlier but that wasn’t enough. not for how alive dice makes him feel.
so he may buy a single red rose on the way home. and he fully intends on catering to every single one of dice’s whims. at least twice. maybe three if his body is up for it.
[The chocolates were perfect, in Dice's opinion. After all, no one had ever made him chocolate for Valentine's, so how could he not be charmed?
When he gets the message, he curses mildly and rushes to turn on some soft music he isn't quite aware of the side effects of, and to dish up the curry and bring it to the table. He's just putting the plates down when the door opens.
Dice steps back quickly, wiping his hands on the apron, a bandaid on one finger that wasn't there earlier, spices smudged on his face, the whole place smelling like too-hot curry. But he's smiling hopefully at Gentaro.]
( his gaze sweeps around the room. it’s so much. it’s so, so much. no one has ever thought to do something even a modicum this nice for him. ever. so.
his eyes lift back to dice. god he’s so stupidly handsome right now.
he quickly sets the rose down and inhaled deeply. )
[Dice is a mess, but he tried. He hurries to take the apron off and toss it over the back of his chair.]
Yeah!
[He scoops up the bouquet of flowers--not roses, but wildflowers, mismatched and unpredictable because Dice picked them one by one at the stand--and moves over to Gentaro.]
( his face is absolutely on fire, body high on adrenaline, pulse faster than it’s ever been. it takes one last quick glance to the flowers and then dice before his hands cup the man’s face and he drags him into a rough kiss, nearly losing his own balance when he collides against dice’s much sturdier form. )
[He's pulled in, stumbles into it, puts his free arm around Gentaro and holds the flowers out of the way so they won't get crushed. This is some movie stuff. This is the best. It's worth every bit of effort he went to. Slowly, he kisses back, trying to settle Gentaro down by taking charge of the kiss. He doesn't know is something's wrong or what, but he's hoping his love is happy.]
( nothing at all is wrong. that’s the point. it’s been two whirlwind months of amazing honesty and growing and — and then the months before that and it’s so hard to imagine life before dice.
he doesn’t mind dice taking control; he’s the only one he’d ever allow a modicum of control to.
he smiles against the kiss, body easily relaxing and melting against dice’s. )
[Of course it isn't about anything artificial. Dice may be young and stupid, but he loves fiercely, and hes already dead set on being with Gentaro for a long time.
Though he's still not sure what's so great about this. It's like, super cliche or something, isn't it? But there goes Gentaro, loving it--and him--more than he deserves.
At those words, he puts a hand over one of Gentaro's, easing it off his shirt. He kisses his hand, looking awkward for a moment, as if he's thinking very hard about something and trying to buy himself some time.
It's not like he doesn't want to marry him. That's the opposite of the issue. It's... well.]
Hang out a sec.
[Unceremoniously, and with no explanation, he heads to the bedroom. There's the sound of rummaging, Dice murmuring something to himself, then silence. He heads back into the living room, something closed in his hand.]
I was gonna wait a while on this. I didn't get to come up with a big speech or anything, even though I tried real hard. So I put it in the night stand and I thought maybe I'd figure out the right time sometime. But all I gotta say, at the end of the day, is that I don't plan on bein' without you.
[He holds out his hand, and opens it to reveal something small.]
( in those moments, he feels a cold panic. while he trusts dice more than he’s ever allowed himself to trust anyone before, he’s mortified. he’s overstepped a boundary, gone way too fast, forced something so concrete and serious on dice.
but when dice comes back there’s relief.
it only grows when he listens to those words. and then his eyes drop to the box and it’s contents.
he honestly thought this would be the end, being impulsive and dumb and so cataclysmically in love. )
Dice — Come again...? ( he has to mean this, has to be suggesting — )
[Shit. He's gonna. Have to say something. He's good on his feet, but it's not like he was really thinking this was going to happen today.]
It's for you. Maybe we just figured our shit out a couple months ago, but I don't know... Life's short as hell and I don't wanna have a single regret. If I'm gonna do this, I wanna do it with you. So.
[He holds the ring out a little further.]
If you want to, anyway. I'm sayin', yeah, I'll marry you. You just beat me to askin', I guess.
[That gesture soothes the sudden nerves, and Dice closes his eyes.]
Gentaro... I knew you'd change me the day we met. I knew you'd make me stronger, better in every way, just by bein' my friend. The first time I kissed you, I knew I wanted more. More and more, and I felt selfish about it, and I was scared when things went weird. I'm workin' hard every day to make sure I don't mess up again.
[A breath.]
I wanna be with you forever. I wanna rap with you, I wanna create worlds with you. I wanna marry you. So how about it?
[Dice feels it, the way Gentaro shakes and sighs and gives himself over, like he so often does. He's never gonna have anyone else, and the thought doesn't bother him one bit.]
I don't want anybody else, either. You're as good as it gets, and I got you.
[The box is discarded on the open part of the table, and Dice grips Gentaro's hand tightly.]
( he keeps dice close, the warmth insanely comforting. he loves him. by god he loves him. he’s actually doing this, found this, is capable of this. )
My pretty Dice.
( his free hand plays with the ends of his hair and he leans up to ghost their lips together once more. )
[This is a life Dice never even entertained having. He's standing here like an honest man with an honest job and someone he loves to come home to... it's weird. But it's the best.]
Whoa, that sounds wild. And you're the pretty one, you know.
( god, he wants to climb you like a tree, dice. he’s so emotional right now and it’s a war between his heart, mind and dick. remarkable how one singular person can do so many terribly wonderful things to him by just existing. )
You do know that now I have to propose to you as well.
( there’s a mischievous look in his eyes as he nudges their noses together. )
To give you your ring, of course. It’s only fair. ( that’s not how it works but ok gentaro. )

Yeah!

It's just curry. I didn't wanna mess up too much.

You... went to all this effort. Why?

[He laughs, maybe a little more loudly than is necessary.]
I spent a month tryin' to think of somethin' huge to do and I settled for this because I was comin' up blank!
[This is Dice giving up and settling on something he thinks is probably, like, cliche or whatever.]
I'm doin' it 'cause I love you. You're great! Don't you think you deserve some flowers and dinner? 'cause I do!

he’s overwhelmed again, staring at dice.
his fingers haven’t left the fabric near his shoulders. dice loves him. he truly loves him. this isn’t about the moons or something artificial. )
You’re — ( he cant even process this. ) Marry me.
( No??? you can’t just ORDER THAT OR SAY THAT RANDOMLY. THIS ISNT A PROPOSAL. YOU CANT DO THIS GENTARO. )

gentaro smiles. it’s so small and vulnerable and he quickly looks down to the box and takes the ring from it. with no hesitation, he slips it on. )
Of course I will. ( his face is on fire. )
I don’t ... have a ring for you. ( he’s so flustered right now; it’s so absurdly rare for him. )

[Dice is getting flustered, himself. Maybe he was too hasty? Or maybe Gentaro wanted to do it more normally?]
...are you sure? If you need to think about it, it's totally fine!

You never messed up. Never.

I will. I don’t ever intend on loving anyone but you for the rest of my life.
